The ancient Kushite city of Napata, located in modern-day Sudan near Jebel Barkal, thrived for centuries (approx. 800 BCE – 100 CE) because of the Nile’s long-term stability. The river deposited fertile silt that built up a wide, stable floodplain, providing consistent water and productive land for agricultural development in a desert region.
This created a broad, productive floodplain suitable for agriculture and minimized dangerous flood risks, making the region a, sustainable, and reliable location for the Kushite capital.
